Dr. Jay Paul has directed the Honors Program since 1985 and is a former president of the Virginia Collegiate Honors Council. He is one of the academic advisors for new Honors Students and is always available to answer questions about the Honors Program and the CNU curriculum as a whole. He has been a CNU nominee for the Commonwealth Outstanding Teacher Award and was recognized by the Board of Visitors for his service to the Honors Program.
Paul has been at CNU for 25 years and teaches creative writing courses in the English Department. He is the author of a book of poems, Going Home in Flood Time, and his short story "Aunt Titus Nusbaum Toots in from Toonerville" received Honorable Mention in The Best American Short Stories. He has been a Finalist for the Virginia Prize for Poetry, the New Letters Literary Awards, and the State Street Chapbook Competition.
Dr. Paul is faculty sponsor of CNU's Virginia Zeta chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society and of Vibes of Our Vernacular. He did his undergraduate work at Hartwick College in upstate New York and earned his Ph. D. at Michigan State University
