CNU accepts the Common App! You can send transcripts and school report forms through Naviance or fill out the Secondary School Report Form. |
We place great emphasis on high school curriculum and look with favor on Honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and dual-enrollment courses. We also seek students who demonstrate leadership, a commitment to service, exemplary talents and diverse experiences.
Deadline and Notification
Please note: The fall 2012 freshman class is closed and the Common Application has been deactivated for CNU.

Early Decision (Binding)
If CNU is a student's first choice, we encourage him or her to apply through our Early Decision program. THIS IS A BINDING ADMISSION PROGRAM — Students accepted during Early Decision will be expected to withdraw all applications to other colleges and submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit to CNU by February 1. The admission committee respects the significant commitment demonstrated by Early Decision applicants, and considers this accordingly during the review process.
Early Action (Non-binding)
Applying Early Action is an excellent opportunity for students seeking an early response to their application for admission. Since Early Action is non-binding, a student may still apply to other colleges. All applicants not applying Early Decision should consider taking advantage of this option. In addition, outstanding applicants who apply by the Early Action deadline will be given priority consideration for academic scholarships through the President's Leadership and Honors programs.
Interviews
We strongly encourage any student applying for admission to interview at CNU. This personal interaction enables us to get to know the applicant beyond their academic credentials, and allows them the opportunity to validate their interest in the university.
Test Optional Program
Students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 or rank in the upper 10 percent of their class have the option of whether or not to submit standardized test scores (SAT or ACT).
Checklist
Recommended checklist for students to follow when looking to apply to CNU.
Scholarship Programs
- President’s Leadership Program (PLP)
Applicants present an average GPA of 3.9 and 1250 SAT (Critical Reading and Math). As part of PLP, each student receives a minor in leadership studies. This program equips great leaders for the 21st century by uniquely integrating academic study, civic engagement and personal development. Each student will receive an annual $1,000 or $2,000 scholarship and a study abroad grant. Students recognized as Canon Leadership Scholars will receive a $5,000 merit scholarship. - Honors Program
Applicants present an average GPA of 4.1 and 1350 SAT (Critical Reading and Math). This program accelerates the advancement of these academically gifted students into upper-level coursework by reducing the number of required entry-level core curriculum credits by 60 percent. This allows more time for independent study, extensive research and advanced scholarship while working toward a bachelor’s degree. All Honors students receive annual $2,000 or $5,000 scholarships and a study abroad grant.
Signature Programs
- Pre-Med and Pre-Health
Our Pre-Med and Pre-Health programs assist students pursuing any major to prepare for such post-graduate study. In addition to the necessary coursework, we offer resources to help students gain admission to their professional school of choice — from academic and career advising to mentoring, clinical internships, workshops and seminars. - Pre-Law
While no specific courses are required for law school admission, courses in constitutional law, logic and legal reasoning are helpful toward preparing for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and the rigors of law school. Along with our new concentration in constitutional studies, the philosophy of law minor offers courses particularly relevant to such preparation. - Undergraduate Research
Our undergraduates participate in all facets of the research process — from brainstorming and collecting data to presenting research results via professional conferences and published works. Our students have applied their expertise to a wide range of initiatives, many leading to presentations at local, regional and national conferences. Plus, CNU provides financial support to students for research projects. Our emphasis on undergraduate research gives students a unique opportunity to join their professors in finding ways to reach across departments to create opportunities for discovery. - Master of Arts in Teaching
After receiving a bachelor’s degree, students continue into a fifth year of professional courses at the graduate level in content and pedagogy, and a semester of student teaching. Upon completion of the fifth year, students will have earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and a license to teach in one of our 14 endorsement areas.
