Welcome new Captains! Class of 2016        

Congratulations again on your admission to Christopher Newport University. Our Admitted Student System is designed to help you complete important steps toward becoming a CNU Captain! Between now and your Setting Sail Orientation date, you will be prompted through email to revisit the Admitted Student System. Be sure to check your email often and join the Class of 2016 group on Facebook where you can start meeting your classmates!

The May 1 enrollment deposit deadline is fast approaching! Please remember that a spot will not be reserved for you in the 2012 freshmen class if you have not paid your deposit by May 1.

After you've created an account in the Admitted Student System, you will be able to complete the following tasks: 

  • Accept CNU's offer of admission
  • Pay your $500 enrollment deposit (deadline: Early Decision — Jan. 30; Early Action and Regular Decision — May 1)
  • Register for Setting Sail
  • Learn about academic advising and Learning Communities, two ways CNU promotes student success
  • Select your course preferences
  • Complete your Housing Contract Acceptance Form. Learn more about housing at CNU. (Note: All new students are required to live on campus their freshman, sophomore and junior years unless they reside with a parent or legal guardian in Grafton, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Tabb, Seaford or Yorktown.) 
  • Select a meal plan. Learn more about dining options at CNU.
  • Complete the Immunization Form
  • Sign up for Admitted Freshman Day

Find Your Way Around

Get Connected

Once you are admitted into a graduate program at CNU, your student ID and email address will be automatically generated. You will receive this information in your admissions letter.

Captain's Card

Basically, it’s your lifeline to campus! Your Captains Card is your CNU ID card. You use it to access your meal plan and Captain’s Cash account. It also is used in the Trible Library, to enter the Freeman Center or check out game-room equipment in the David Student Union.

Where Do I Park?

Don't forget to pick up a parking decal at the Parking Office located in the parking garage of the Ferguson Center for the Arts. We are a decal-enforced campus.

Pay Your Bill

For information regarding tuition and fees and corresponding payment due dates and payment options, please consult the Business Office online.

Help Paying the Bill

To apply for need-based financial aid you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. Our priority deadline to receive your FAFSA information is March 1. CNU’s school code is 003706.

Get Some Advice

Please contact your Graduate Advisor (as listed in your letter of admission) or the graduate program coordinator for your program so you can receive your Program Planning Sheet listing the courses needed to complete your degree and prepare for class registration.

The Graduate Catalog

If you are an applied physics and computer science or environmental science degree- seeking graduate student, please contact the Office of Graduate Studies so that you may receive your copy of the Graduate Catalog. Degree-seeking MAT students receive their Graduate Catalog during an orientation from the Director of Teacher Preparation.

Complete your Plan to Attend card enclosed in your acceptance letter indicating whether you will or will not be attending CNU and mail it to the following address: Office of the Registrar, 1 University Place, Newport News, VA  23606  ATTN: Transfer Affairs

Get Connected

Once you confirm that you will be attending CNU, your student ID and email address will be automatically generated. This information will be provided to you within your Welcome packet which will be mailed to you once you accept our offer. Activate your CNU email address which will also be enclosed in your Welcome packet.

Changing Tides is an orientation program designed specifically with the needs of transfer students in mind. Whether you are transferring from a two-year or four-year college or university, you will get the information you need that is essential to making your CNU experience a success.

Get a Room!

Complete your Upper Class Contract Acceptance and submit your $250 deposit before May 1. Note: Housing is on a first come first serve basis for all incoming transfer students.

Get the Grades

Send final official college transcripts and high school transcripts to the Office of the Registrar. Transcripts must be received by June 1 for the fall semester and January 4 for the spring semester.

Financial Info

What is the cost of attending CNU - tuition, room and board?

Our Business Office, located on the second floor of the Administration Building, can provide the most current information regarding tuition, room and board.

Do you have a schedule of fees for attendance?

Yes. The Business Office can provide you with a list of general fees.

Does CNU offer a monthly tuition payment plan?

Yes. It allows you to pay your annual tuition and fees in 10 equal monthly installments. Learn more >>>

Who do I contact about the Virginia Prepaid Tuition Program (VPEP)?

The Office of Student Accounts can assist you. Reach them by phone at (757) 594-7582. For questions regarding your VPEP or VEST (Virginia Education Savings Trust) account, please call VPEP directly at (800) 567-0540.

On Campus

Where will my son or daughter live?

We have four new residence halls and two new apartment complexes rated “best in the state” by students. Every residential room has high-speed Internet, basic satellite cable TV, digital local phone service and electronic room access. All rooms are equipped with microwave and mini-refrigerator or have kitchen access. Laundry facilities are located in each residence hall. Housing@CNU >>>

Where will my son or daughter eat?

With several dining locations, satisfying hunger is only limited by your student’s choice (or craving). We offer many diverse options — from Regatta’s to Sweet Street to Chick-fil-A. You will find several meal plans to choose from as well.

How about banking...and a post office?

Several ATM machines are located across campus — the David Student Union, The Freeman Center, the Trible Library, to name a few sites. You will also find several area banks in close proximity to campus. Inside the David Student Union, your student can pick up letters and packages from home. There is a full service post office just a block from campus.

Can freshmen have cars on campus?

Freshmen are permitted to have cars on campus. A required parking decal costs $250. Decals for 2012-13 will be available for purchase when your student arrives on campus. Parking@CNU >>>

Is my student safe on campus?

CNU has a full-time, professionally trained police department responsible for the safety and welfare of students, employees and guests. Our University Police are committed to providing a safe and secure environment, and we also have a dedicated emergency website (cnualert.info) that provides up-to-date information and instructions regarding emergency situations. From there you can sign up to get emergency information via text message and email.

Can I access my student's academic information?

"Disclosure to parents and organizations providing financial support to a student: It is the University’s policy to release the academic transcript to parents and/or organizations only upon the student’s written request or authorization. Parents may also provide documentation showing the student as a financial dependent according to the definition provided in section 152 of the IRS Code.
