Announcement Requests - Policies and Procedures

The CNU community can have relevant news and event announcements posted through the web portal, myCNU.  Announcements pushed through myCNU can not only be targeted to specific groups (staff, faculty and students) but the method of delivery can be either through a portal channel, email.

With myCNU, the body of your announcement must be keyed into a web form, along with subject, target audience, and delivery and expiration dates.  When submitted, the form is emailed to one of the trained announcers on campus and they will then re-create your information in the administrative section of the portal and release the announcement to the appropriate audience(s).  For that reason, electronic requests are a must to allow for "copy-n-paste".  This also ensures that the announcement is an exact copy of what was requested.

The Office of University Relations, in cooperation with Information Technology Services, has developed Announcement Request Policies and a specific procedures for making an announcement request.  Please look for updates to these policies and procedures as they become available.

ALL announcements must adhere to these guidelines:

  1. All announcements should be thoroughly proofread for grammar, spelling, punctuation and accuracy, especially for dates, times and places and contact information. Announcements will be released "AS IS". The integrity of the message is your responsibility.  Changes to previously released announcements are limited to 1.
  2. All announcements should be a brief as possible:  "Just the facts!".  (Please review Tips for Formatting Your Announcement)
  3. NOTE:  Attachments cannot be delivered through the portal channel or email.  Your entire announcement must be included in the body of the message.
  4. All announcements must include the following:
    • Target Audience (staff, faculty, students or any combination of the three)
    • Title (e.g., "The Lady Captains Win 3rd Championship!")
    • Body of the message (Make sure to include an email address and/or phone number for questions/comments regarding your announcement information.)
    • Date announcement is to be released (Announcements can be "scheduled" for release up to 6 months in advance.)
    • Date announcement is to expire
  5. All announcements must pertain to CNU business or CNU sponsored campus activities or events only.  Announcements for events not directly related to CNU (e.g., "ABC Middle School will be holding a car wash to raise money for books.") will not be released. Announcements of the "classified ad" nature (selling a book, promoting your favorite charity event) will not be released.
  6. Announcements deployed via both portal channel and portal email are for EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS ONLY.
  7. Clubs and/or organizations requesting an announcement must be an officially recognized club or organization by the Office of Student Life.
  8. ALL announcement requests should be made through the appropriate myCNU Announcement Request form.
A link to these forms can also be found on the myCNU login page. PHONE CALL REQUESTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
  9. ALL announcements will be pushed via the appropriate myCNU announcement channel (Campus Announcements or Personal Announcements) except for those pertaining to internal CNU business (e.g., CNU Employees only job announcements, Business Office changes in travel reimbursement procedures, HR policies/procedures) or any announcement that requires action by any segment (faculty, staff or student) of the CNU community (e.g., timesheets are due, appointments for investment counselors, shutting down computers in preparation for temporary power outages).  Those announcements will be pushed via targeted email.
  10. Submitting multiple Announcement Requests in order to have your announcement at the top of the list in either the Personal Announcement channel or the Campus Announcement channel is not allowed.
  11. Please include a point of contact, including an email address, in the body of the message.  This will be very helpful for users who may have a question regarding your announcement information or the publicized event.

One of the goals of myCNU is to have event information and announcements available through the myCNU web portal, reserving email for day-to-day, work-related communications.
