Office of the Associate Provost


Mission:


The Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Services exists to serve students, faculty, and administrators by providing oversight and administering university policy for several offices that report to the Provost.   These include, but are not limited to:  Academic Advising, the Office of Career Development, Graduate Studies, Office of International Programs, and Office of Teacher Preparation.

Academic Advising - Academic advising at CNU is a teaching and learning experience that encourages students to be actively engaged in developing and implementing a sound educational plan based on individual values, goals, interests and abilities. The key element of the advising process is the relationship between the advisor and the student which promotes student exploration and the achievement of academic and life goals.  More........

Office of Career Development  -  The Office of Career Development assists all level students including alumni with choosing a major, volunteering and intership opportunties, on campus part-time jobs opportunties, employment of graduation, and with exploring graduate schools and programs.  More.........

Office of Graduate Studies - Graduate programs offer degrees at the master's level for students educational and professional enrichment in response to meeting the needs of the CNU community thereby enabling recipients greater ability to practice in and contribute to a profession or field of scholarship. The Associate Provost serves as Director of Graduate Studies. The Graduate Programs Council (GPC) sets the agenda for each GPC meeting and assures the smooth operation of the repsonsibilities of the GPC.  The Council provides oversight of all graduate studies activities.  More........

Graduate Program Council - The Graduate Program Council has oversight, authority, and responsibility for formulating and reviewing policy and making decisions about all graduate programs, education, and activities.    The council conducts on-going assessment of graduate programs, provide leadership and direction for graduate faculty and programs, and onsiders/approve general academic standards of graduate studies.   It formulates policies pertaining to graduate programs.   More....... 

Graduate Studies Admissions - Graduate Studies admission applications are received, processed, and maintained by the Graduate Studies Coordinator in the Office of the Associate Provost. This office oversees the admissions process for the masters’ programs and the five-year baccalaureate to masters programs at CNU.  More........

Office of International Programs - OIP serves as a resource for students seeking information and guidance about prestigious scholarships and fellowships, and to those students wishing to pursue study abroad as a part of their academic experience at Christopher Newport University.  More........

Office of Teacher Preparation - The Teacher Preparation Program works closely with students through advising, coordinating, administering, and instructing in meeting the requirements for licensure through the Virginia Department of Education to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  More........
