Christopher Newport Football Schedule Released

2005 Schedule to Feature Six Home Games

Newport News , VA - The Christopher Newport football program will play six times at POMOCO Stadium in the 2005 regular season. The University unveiled the new schedule today.

The Captains will open their fifth season of play during Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, September
3rd , hosting Rowan University at 1 pm. CNU will open USA South Conference play one week later, Saturday, September 10 th , hosting new member Maryville College of Tennessee at 1 pm. The first meeting ever with Maryville will come during Family Weekend.

Christopher Newport is coming off a 9-3 season in 2004, and a fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in as many years. The Captains advanced to the second round of the tournament last year for the second straight season.

CNU will also play non-conference games at home against Salisbury University (September 17 th at 1:30 pm) and Chowan College (October 15 th at 1 pm during Homecoming Weekend). Salisbury returns to the CNU regular-season schedule for the first time since 2002, and the game will be a re-match of CNU's 35-24 win over the Sea Gulls in last year's NCAA Tournament in Salisbury , MD.

Christopher Newport will also host USA South games against Shenandoah (October 1 st at 1 pm) and North Carolina Wesleyan (October 29 th at 1 pm). It will be the Bishops first game ever in Newport News , as North Carolina Wesleyan just added a football program last season.

Matt Kelchner's squad will have four road games, and all will be in the USA South. CNU doesn't play on the road until Saturday, October 8 th , when the Captains travel to Greensboro College . Christopher Newport will also play at Methodist on October 22 nd , and then complete the season with road games at Averett (November 5 th ) and Ferrum (November 12 th ).
