Football Picked To Finish Second In USA South Preseason Poll
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's football team was chosen to finish second in the 2007 USA South Football Preseason Poll released at today's Media Day.
NC Wesleyan was chosen by the coaches of the USA South to finish first in the poll. The Bishops have yet to claim a conference title but finished third, the best ever in the program's three years, in the conference in 2006.
The Bishops received six of eight first place votes and totaled 48 points.
The Captains have tied for the regular season title five times since 2001 and received two first place votes for 44 points. CNU was 8-3 in 2006 and advanced to the NCAA Playoffs where they fell 27-23 in the first round to Washington & Jefferson.
Christopher Newport opens the season Sept. 1 when they host Rowan.
