Corbin Named National Co-Baseball Player Of The Week

NEWBERG, OR - Christopher Newport baseball player John Corbin was named Co-Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Corbin, along with East Texas Baptist's Josiah Jones earned Co-Player Honors. Lebanon Valley's Robert Nordall was named National Pitcher of the Week.

Corbin, a junior from Williamsburg, VA, was instrumental in the Captains' 6-1 week at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, FL. He batted .739 (17-for-23), scored eight runs, had four doubles, and collected 14 RBI. He slugged .913, walked four times, did not strike out, had an on-base percentage of .778, and was 3-for-4 in stolen bases. His biggest games included a 3-for-3 game vs. Alma with three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base, and a 3-for-3 vs. Notre Dame (OH) in which he drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 7th. In CNU's first game back home on Sunday vs. Johnson & Wales, he went 4-for-5 with a double, four RBIs, a run scored, and a stolen base.

The Captains are 10-8 overall and return to action this afternoon at Randolph-Macon. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
