Women's Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaking 11-10 Decision To Randolph-Macon
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 11-10 decision at home to Randolph-Macon Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Captains scored the first goal of the game less than five minutes into the start of the contest. But Randolph-Macon countered by scoring six of the next eight goals to lead 6-3 at the break.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first goal of the half, but Christopher Newport responded with five consecutive goals to take an 8-7 lead with 15:26 left in the game.
RMC scored three of the game's next four scores to re-take the lead 10-9 with 7:08 left to play. Bonnie Hansen knotted the score at 10-10 with 5:37 to go but Randolph-Macon's Lacy Phelps scored the game-winner with 1:06 to play to lift the Yellow Jackets to the win.
Kristen Conques paced CNU with three goals and two assists. Kristyn Hankins added one goal and two helpers while Hansen finished with two scores. Lisa Thomson, Katie Doherty, Christine Mike and Natalie Gilbert each had one goal for Christopher Newport.
The Yellow Jackets out-shot the Lady Captains, 28-26. Gayle Robinson, making her first collegiate start, finished with 10 saves for CNU.
Christopher Newport falls to 4-3 overall while RMC improves to 1-2. The Lady Captains return to action Sunday as they travel to Averett with start time set for 3 pm.
