Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Greensboro, 15-11

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team held off a late charge by Greensboro in a 15-11 USA South win Saturday afternoon at Captains Field.

The two teams traded goals for the first 12 minutes of the opening stanza. CNU took a 4-2 lead with 17:21 left in the first and went on to lead by five, 9-4, at the break.

In the second half, the pride cut the lead to as few as two, 12-10, with 12:23 left, but the Lady Captains out-scored GC 3-1 over the final 11 minutes to secure the win.

Kristen Conques led the way for Christopher Newport with four goals and one assist. Natalie Gilbert added four scores while Kristyn Hankins had three goals and one assist. Katie Doherty contributed one goal and three assists, Bonnie Hansen had one goal and two helpers, Shayna Sargent finished with one goal and one assist and Lisa Thomason scored once. Christine Mike had one assist in the win.

Christopher Newport out-shot the Pride, 42-22. Gayle Robinson recorded the win and made five stops in net for CNU.

GC falls to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Lady Captains are now 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Sunday as they host Catholic at 2 pm.
