Men's Tennis Sweeps St. Mary's (MD), 9-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad opened its 2007 season with a 9-0 win over St. Mary's (MD) on the CNU Courts Wednesday afternoon.

In singles play, John Mook (CNU) defeated Jeremy Butanis 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1; Eddie Glidewell (CNU) defeated Jacob Eikenberg 6-0, 6-0; John Braig (CNU) defeated Travis Horrom at No. 3 6-0, 6-0; Dylan Young (CNU) defeated Brett Hermans 6-0, 6-0; Steve Myers (CNU) defeated Thomas Kallarackal 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and David Weiner (CNU) defeated Ken Nugent 6-0, 6-0.

For Young, Myers and Braig, it was their first collegiate dual match win in their young careers. For Scott, it was his first collegiate win overall.

In doubles play, Glidewell and Mook (CNU) defeated Horrom and Butanis 8-2; Weiner and Young (CNU) defeated Hermans and Eikenberg 8-2 at No. 2 and Kevin Repper and Scott defeated Kallarackal and Nugent 8-3.

The Captains are now 1-0 overall while the Seahawks fall to 1-1. CNU returns to action Friday as they host Piedmont on the CNU Courts at 1 pm.
