Men's Tennis Sweeps Shenandoah, 9-0
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad swept USA South rival Shenandoah 9-0 Wednesday on the CNU Courts.
In doubles competition, No. 8 (Atlantic South) Eddie Glidewell and John Mook (CNU) defeated Andy
Torrealba and Cody Jarrell 8-1 at No. 1; Steve Myers and John Braig (CNU) defeated
Travis Dohm and Chris Overstreet 8-0; Dylan Young and David
Weiner (CNU) defeated Evan Lowery and Matt Martinez 8-1 at No. 3.
In singles action,
No. 17 Glidewell (CNU) defeated Torrealba 7-5, 6-0; Braig (CNU) defeated
Jarrell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2; Young (CNU) defeated Dohm 6-1, 6-0; Myers (CNU) defeated
Lowery 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4; Kevin Repper (CNU) defeated Martinez 6-1, 6-0; and
Chris Scott (CNU) defeated Overstreet 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Captains ended their two-match losing streak as all eight players on the roster scored at
least one victory apiece. Glidewell rallied from
a 5-3 deficit in the first set to win the last 10
games against Torrealba.
The Hornets are now 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the USA South while Christopher Newport improves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Captains hit the road Friday to take on Greensboro at 10 am and Averett at 2 pm.
