Men's Tennis Downs Greensboro 8-1, Slips Past Averett, 5-4

GREENSBORO, NC - The Captains men's tennis team remained unbeated with an 8-1 win at Greensboro and a 5-4 victory at Averett Friday.

Against Greensboro, the Captains won all three doubles matches. Results are No. 8 (Atlantic South) Eddie Glidewell and John Mook (CNU) defeated David Sutton and Ben Roberts 8-1; David Weiner and Dylan Young (CNU) defeated Tim Leyson and Chris Gaines 8-1 at No. 2; and Steve Myers and Chris Scott (CNU) defeated Francois Theriault and Alex Widoff 8-1.

In singles competition, Sutton defeated No. 17 Glidewell (CNU) 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1; No. 15 Mook (CNU) defeated Roberts 6-0, 6-0; Braig (CNU) defeated Gaines 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3; Young (CNU) defeated Leyson 6-2, 6-1; Repper (CNU) defeated Theriault 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5; and Weiner (CNU) defeated Adam Brunner 6-0, 6-1.

Greensboro falls to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the USA South.

Against Averett, Daniel McGregor and Jose Licera defeated Glidewell and Mook (CNU) at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. It's the first loss of the year for the region's eighth-ranked tandem. Erick Ocampo and Marcelo Diaz defeated Myers and Braig (CNU) 8-4. Weiner and Young (CNU) avoided the sweep by the Cougars by defeating Robbie Ferris and Jeff Imgund 8-1 at No. 3,

In singles action, it was Glidewell's three-set victory over McGregor at No. 1 (3-6, 6-2, 7-5) that gave the Captains the one point win. Mook (CNU) defeated Licera 6-1, 7-6 (7-4); Ocampo defeated Braig (CNU) 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3; Diaz defeated Young (CNU) 6-1, 6-1; Myers (CNU) defeated Ferrus 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Repper (CNU) defeated Imgrund 6-1, 6-0.

Christopher Newport improves to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the USA South. The Cougars fall to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

The Captains return to action Saturday as they take on the nation's 17th-ranked squad (4th in the region) Washington & Lee in Lexington, VA at 11 am.
