Men's Tennis Finishes Second At USA South Conference Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's men's tennis team placed second at the USA South Conference Tournament held at Huntington Park.

Methodist finished first with 58 points, CNU was second with 42 points, Averett placed third with 37 points, Ferrum finished fourth with 25 points, Greensboro and NC Wesleyan tied for fifth with nine and Shenandoah finished seventh with six points.

At No. 1 singles, Eddie Glidewell (CNU) lost to Methodist's Keith Criscoe in the championship 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 2 singles, John Mook (CNU) defeated Ferrum's Paul Matthews 8-6 to finish in third place.

At No. 3 singles, Steven Inge (CNU) defeated Ferrum's Erich Trier 8-1 to place third.

At No. 4 singles, Worth Richardson (CNU) lost to MC's David Hardy 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match.

At No. 5 singles, Matt Brueggemann (CNU) was the flight winner, defeating Methodist's Mike Layton 6-4, 6-2.

At No. 6 singles, Adam Peters (CNU) lost to Greg Alice 6-2, 6-3 in the finals.

At No. 3 doubles, CNU's Brueggemann and Peters lost to Methodist's Joe Noth and Mike Layton 8-1 in the championship.
