Softball Sweeps Peace

RALEIGH, NC - Christopher Newport's softball team swept a pair of games at Peace on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Captains won game one by a score of 9-0 in five innings. CNU scored five runs in the first, three more in the fourth and one more in the fifth.

Lauren Pleveich hit her second home run of the season and she finished 1-for-3 with two RBI. Becky Bond was 2-for-3 and Mary Kennedy finished 2-for-4.

Janet Fairchild tossed a complete game picking up the shutout. She allowed just one hit and struck out three.

CNU won game two by a score of 6-2. The Lady Captains scored five times in the fourth and one more in the seventh.

Kennedy finished 3-for-4 to lead the way. Melanie Hose was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Kristen Bruce tossed six solid innings yielding two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Kristen Rowe threw the seventh and struck out the side.

Christopher Newport improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the USA South. The Lady Captains return to action Tuesday as they host Methodist with first pitch set for 1:30 pm.
