Softball Splits Doubleheader At Peace

RALEIGH, NC - Christopher Newport's softball team split a USA South doubleheader at Peace College Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Captains won game one, 1-0, on a solo home run by Becky Bond in the top of the fourth inning. CNU managed only one other hit, a single by Margit Severin.

Michelle Kass-Prewitt tossed a one-hitter while walking just one and striking out 11 to pick up her 10th win of the year.

In game two, the Pacers won 2-0 on a two-run home by Erica Rutledge in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Kass-Prewitt was saddled with the loss, she is now 10-4 on the year. The senior allowed four hits, walked two and struck out five.

CNU was led by Susan Ishman who was 2-for-2. Bond, Severin, and Nicole Gray each had one hit for the Lady Captains.

CNU is now 11-7 overall on the year and 3-1 in conference play. The Lady Captains return to action this Wednesday when they host Chowan with first pitch set for 2:30 pm.
