Softball Downs Ferrum, Game Two Called Due To Rain
FERRUM, VA - Christopher Newport's softball team defeated Ferrum in game one and led the Panthers in game two before it was called due to rain in the fourth inning Wednesday afternoon.
Megan Morris tripled in the fifth and came around to score for the game's only run to give the Lady Captains a 1-0 win.
Janet Fairchild picked up win number 10, tossing six innings. She gave up three hits, walked two and struck out one. Kristen Rowe came in and picked up save number 13 on the year. She tossed a scoreless seventh inning, gave up one hit and struck out one.
Morris finished 2-for-3 to pace the Lady Captains offensively.
In game two, Christopher Newport led 5-1 in the fourth when the game was called due to lightning and rain.
The Lady Captains are now 23-6 overall and 8-1 in the USA South. Ferrum falls to 10-17 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
CNU returns to action Saturday as they travel to Mary Baldwin with first pitch set for 2 pm.
