Parr Adds Four Assistants To Softball Staff
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport softball Head Coach Keith Parr has announced the hiring of four assistants to his staff.
The Lady Captains finished 23-17 overall and 6-8 in the USA South in the spring.
Parr, already has Todd Winegrad on the staff, has added three former players and a veteran coach from the area.
Colleen Duman is one of three former players added to the staff. Duman grew up in Poquoson, VA where she started playing softball. She played at Poquoson High School and played three years at Division I Radford. She graduated from Radford in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise, Sport and Health Education. She recently assisted with the Poquoson varsity softball team. Duman is married to Benjamin Duman, also a graduate of Poquoson and he graduated college from Virginia Tech. The Dumans currently reside in Poquoson and she is employed by See You Get Fit Inc. as a certified personal trainer.
Two former CNU players are also joining the staff. C.J. McQueen and Andrea Rohde join the staff for the their first season.
McQueen, an Honorable Mention All-Conference choice in 2006 at shortstop, hit .351 in her senior year with 47 hits, second on the team, and 35 runs, tops on the squad. She also led the team in steals with 13. She was a Second Team All-Conference choice in 2005 and led the team with a .336 batting average. As a sophomore she hit .415, the second best average on the team. For her career, McQueen hit. 327 with 156 hits, 115 runs scored and 49 stolen bases.
Rohde was the only CNU player to be named to the First Team All-USA South in 2006. She was named to the Utility position. She split time between catcher, designated player and third base. Rohde hit .378, third best on the squad and tied for the team lead in hits with 48. She also led the team in home runs with four and RBI with 27. She hit. 325 as a junior and was an Honorable Mention All-USA South choice and hit .352 with 35 RBI and was a First Team All-USA South choice at catcher during her sophomore campaign. For her career, Rohde hit .338 with 157 hits, eight home runs and 90 RBI.
The final member to round out Parr's staff is Chip Bailey. Bailey has coached high school baseball for 11 years in Richmond and Chesterfield Co. He also coached high school girls softball for seven years in Chesterfield and Hanover Counties and at a private school. He coached St. Gertrude High School in 2001 to an Independent League Championship and a bid in the state Private Schools Tournament.
Bailey owns a Bachelor of Science degree in History from VCU. Also received a Masters in Education in Guidance Counseling and School Administration. He has served as a teacher/guidance counselor for Richmond Publis Schools for the past 32 years. He began teaching hitting, fielding and throwing lessons at Batter Up Baseball/Softball Training Center in January 2000. Currenty, he teaches batting lessons at Rita Lynn's new facility in Hanover County.
