Rowland Named First Team All-State, Bryant Earns Second Team Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport women's basketball player Nikki Rowland was named First Team All-State while teammate Candace Bryant was a Second Team All-State choice, the Virginia Sports Information Directors announced.

Rowland, a senior, led the Lady Captains in scoring for the second straight season, she averaged 14.5 points per game in 2006-2007. Rowland finished the year shooting 40% from the field and 39% from behind the arc and was an 81% free throw shooter. She was named First Team All-USA South and was also named to the USA South's All-Tournament Team. Rowland also went over the 1,000-point mark this year and scored a career-high 27 in a win over Mary Baldwin. She was a Second Team All-State pick a year ago.

Bryant, also a senior, was second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.7 points, for the second consecutive season. She led the team in rebounding, pulling down an average of 8.4 per outing. She also became just the second player in program history to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career. Bryant was a Second Team All-USA South pick this year and was named First Team All-State last year. She too was also named to the USA South's All-Tournament Team.
