Women's Tennis Upends Tri-State, 7-2
HILTON HEAD, SC - Christopher Newport's women's tennis team defeated Tri-State 7-2 in the team's final match of its annual spring break trip Friday afternoon.
In singles action, Lindsey Pantele (CNU) defeated Holly Kimball 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1; Stefanie Leblang (CNU) lost the first set 6-0 to Amanda Steiner, but roared back to win the second set 6-4 and the third set 1-0 (10-4). Frannie Shivar (CNU) defeated Amanda Waidley 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3; Stephanie Waidley defeated Brittany Stevens (CNU) 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4); Liz Thedford (CNU) defeated Amber Crosby 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5 and Chandler Long (CNU) defeated Kara Kauffman 6-1, 1-0, retired.
In doubles competition, Pantele and Leblang (CNU) defeated Kimball and A. Waidley 8-4; Shivar and Stevens (CNU) defeated S. Waidley and Crosby 8-2 at No. 2; and Steiner and Kauffman defeated Thedford and Long 9-7.
CNU returns home perfect on its road trip and perfect on the season at 9-0. The Lady Captains return to action Wednesday when they travel to Goucher with start time set for 2:30 pm.
