Women's Tennis Runs Winning Streak To Five With 6-3 Win At Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC - Christopher Newport's women's tennis team has started the season off with five straight wins, including Sunday's 6-3 win over USA South rival Greensboro.

In singles play, Carrie Pacifico defeated Joanna McCandlish (CNU) 6-2, 6-1 at number one; Stefanie Leblang (CNU) defeated Elise Broverman 6-0, 6-3; Katrina Murphy (CNU) defeated Kate Creasy 7-6, 6-2 at number three; Erin Wells (CNU) was victorious over Sara McGlynn 6-2, 4-6, 6-3; Melissa King (CNU) defeated Susan Harris 6-2, 6-0 at number five and Natalie Pitts (CNU) won her match over Bonnie Watson 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, Pacifico and Broverman defeated McCandlish and Leblang (CNU) 8-6; Creasy and McGlynn defeated Murphy and Wells (CNU) at number two, 9-7; and Pitts and King (CNU) were winners over Harris and Watson 8-0.

The Lady Captains are now 5-0 overall on the year and 3-0 in USA South play. The Lady Captains return to actinon March 25 when they host Averett with start time set for 3:00 pm.
