Women's Tennis Places Second At USA South Conference Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - CNU's women's tennis team finished second at the USA South Conference Tournament held at Huntington Park.

Methodist was the champion with 54 points, CNU was second with 44, Peace finished third with 29, Greensboro was fourth with 28, Averett finished fifth with 24, Shenandoah placed sixth with five and Ferrum and NC Wesleyan tied for seventh with one point.

At No. 1 singles, Joanna McCandlish (CNU) lost to Greensboro's Carrie Pacifico 8-1 in the third place match.

At No. 2 singles, Stefanie Leblang (CNU) defeated Averett's Lauren Wells 9-7 to finish in third place.

At No. 3 singles, Katrina Murphy (CNU) lost to Greensboro's Kate Creasy 8-1 in the third place contest.

At No. 4 singles, Erin Wells (CNU) was defeated by Methodist's Julie Angrick 6-1, 6-2 in the championship.

At No. 5 singles, Melissa King (CNU) won her second consecutive flight championship. She defeated Methodist's Leighton Bull 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 6 singles, Natalie Pitts (CNU) defeated MC's Lauren Hulse 7-6 (6), 6-1 to win her flight.

At No. 1 doubles, CNU's Leblang and McCandlish lost to Averett's Kirsi Turunen and Lauren Wells 8-4 in the championship.

At No. 3 doubles, King and Pitts (CNU) defeated Methodist's Courtney Bull and Hulse 9-7 to win their flight.
