CNU ATHLETICS FINISHES WITH BEST WINNING PERCENTAGE IN VIRGINIA

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport’s athletics teams had the highest combined winning percentage (men and women) in the College Division in the state of Virginia for fourth straight year.

The Captains had a combined winning percentage of .713 but did not have the highest percentage in the men’s or women’s categories.  Longwood had the highest winning percentage of women’s sports, winning .795 percent of their games and Mary Washington won .756 percent of its men’s sports.

CNU finished with an overall record of 197-78-3 to win the title for the fourth consecutive year.  Longwood finished second and Mary Washington was third.  Mary Washington finished with 216 wins, this year’s high in Virginia.

Mary Washington also won the most conference championships in Division II-III with nine Capital Athletic Conference championships.  CNU finished right behind them with eight Dixie championships and Washington & Lee completed its 2002-2003 athletic year with six Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships.
