WOMEN'S SOCCER STUNS RANDOLPH-MACON, 2-1
ASHLAND, Va. – The women’s soccer team scored what may be its
biggest win ever in its short, three-year, history, with a 2-1 with over
regionally-ranked Randolph-Macon Sunday.
It was the first time CNU has beaten a ranked team. RMC entered
the game ranked seventh in the South Region and unbeaten on the season
with a 4-0 record. It had outscored its opponents, 16-1.
Junior Laura McFerrin got CNU on the board at the 47:09 mark
with a goal on an assist from freshman Amy Petko.
The Yellow Jackets tied it at 1-1 when Maggie Adams tallied
with less than eight minutes to play. But McFerrin scored her second goal
of the game just 30 seconds later, on a cross from Petko. It was McFerrin’s
fifth goal of the year, a school record.
Sophomore Anne Johnson made five saves in goal as the Lady Captains
outshot RMC, 24-8.
The win boosts CNU’s record to 3-1-1. It’s only loss came at
the hands of Division II Barton.
The Lady Captains host Mary Baldwin on Wednesday at 4:30.
