WOMEN’S SOCCER REWRITES RECORD BOOK IN 13-0 WIN OVER AVERETT

  NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The women’s soccer team rewrote the CNU record book in a 13-0 win over Averett Saturday night at Captains field.

  CNU set team marks for most goals, assists and points in one game. In addition the Lady Captains won their sixth straight and fifth consecutive shutout, both new marks. Laura McFerrin had her second hat trick of her career, equaling the school mark.

  Along with McFerrin’s goals, Heather Vance had two goals as did Rosie Russo. Scoring once each were Connie Boehling, Shelley Rusnak, Jennifer Callaway and Becky Cheeley. Six players had assists, Melissa Potter, Jessica Ruder, Cheeley, Elke Reisdorph, Heidi Neidlinger and Rusnak.

  CNU used each of its four goalkeepers, Tiffany Swiney, Kim Hughes, Anne Johnson and Sarah Fortier, none of whom was called upon to make a save as the Lady Captains outshot Averett, 41-0.

  CNU improved to 6-0 and 2-0 in Dixie Conference play while Averett fell to 0-9 and 0-4. CNU hosts Chowan Tuesday night.
