WOMEN’S SOCCER TOPS VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 2-0, ATAINS NO. 5 SOUTH RANKING

  NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Lady Captains scored early and then added a goal midway through the second half and went on to a 2-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan at Captains Field Wednesday night. It came just after CNU had received its highest ranking ever, No. 5 in the South in the first regional rankings of the year.

  Just 1:13 into the game Heather Vance scored with an assist from Amy Petko and the score stood 1-0 at halftime. Then, with 27:47 to go, Petko scored unassisted to help the lady Captains improve to 2-0.

  In the game CNU outshot Virginia Wesleyan, 13-7, and goalkeeper Tiffany Swiney made four saves in recording her first career shutout.

  CNU visits Methodist Saturday for its first Dixie Conference contest.
