The Bachelor of Science degree in Biology requires a minimum of 40 credits in Biology to be selected with the aid of the student’s departmental advisor.
LIBERAL LEARNING CURRICULUM – 46-48 credit hours
The liberal learning core contains the following three distinct areas of study. 1. Liberal Learning Foundations (18-20 credits)
- First Year Seminar (ULLC 100 - 3 credits)
- Written Communication Literacy (ENGL 123, ULLC 233 - 6 credits, no grade lower than C-)
- Second Language Literacy (3 credits beyond 102)
- Mathematical Literacy (Above Math 110 - 6-8 credits)
2. Liberal Learning Areas of Inquiry (22 credits)
One course in the Area of Inquiry of your major discipline may be presented to satisfy an Area of Inquiry requirement; no more than seven credit hours from any single discipline may be taken to satisfy the Areas of Inquiry. The seven hours in the Investigating the Natural World must include two lecture courses and one accompanying laboratory.

- Global and Multicultural Perspectives (3 credits)
- Creative Expressions (3 credits)
- Investigating the Natural World (7 credits)
- Formal and Informal Reasoning (3 credits)
- Identity, Institutions, and Societies (3 credits)
3. Liberal Learning Emphasis (6 credits)
At least 6 additional credits in one of the above Areas of Inquiry with at least 3 credits at the 300-level or higher. Courses taken to satisfy the Liberal Learning Emphasis may not be in the department of the major or any discipline for which the major requires coursework at the 300-level or above.

In addition to successful completion of the Liberal Learning Curriculum and the Exit Examination in Biology, the Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology requires successful completion of the following courses.

NOTE: All 300-/400-level BIOL courses have BIOL 202/202L as prerequisites. BIOL 151/151L, 152/152L, 201/201L, 202/202L, the junior level WI course, and 491W must be completed with a C- or better. Students may present no more than two grades below C- in BIOL courses.
