Teaching responsibilities: Business Ethics & the Regulatory Environment (Writing Intensive); The Law of Commerce; The Small Business Institute® (Writing Intensive); Law, Ethics, & American Pop Culture
Research interests:The increasing legal and ethical influences of intellectual property law and contracts in areas of American popular culture; small business/non-profit matchmaking, branding, service learning, and diversity.
Profile: Through an exploration of traditional and contemporary perspectives of society in American popular culture, I focus on themes that explore whether law has evolved with pop culture. Individuals often make varied assumptions and know very little about the law. People pick up pieces of information about the law from popular t.v. shows, movies, novels, and newspaper accounts of trial coverage. But these pieces of information do not give an accurate or complete picture surrounding the legal issues. This often leads to tensions created by competing stakeholder interests that provide a rich framework for the study of law.
I also explore interdisciplinary approaches to small business and small private non-profit “matchmaking.” I identify this stream of research by the phrase “B-harmony,” which explores why and how these two business entities can work together to build their brands, better compete in their respective environments, and better leverage resources to serve their stakeholders. This research targets small business and small private non-profit stakeholders, and examines novel ideas and conceptual frameworks involving business branding, service learning, and diversity.
