- Our Marketing Students, with the leadership of Dr. Lisa Spiller have won the prestigious International Competition for Direct Marketing, called the ECHO Award four times (2003, 2005, 2007 & 2011) and were runner up on another occasion (2002). They achieved honorable mention twice (2004 & 2006).
- These students have also won the Regional Competition called the MAXI award 6 times (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011). And placed second three times (2002, 2003 and 2010).
- Our Small Business Institute (SBI) students compete annually in a national competition and have received several national awards for their cases that were based on local businesses in the Hampton Roads areas. In 2010, our students placed second, nationally, in the case competition.
- Each year our Accounting students, under the leadership of Gabrielle Lingenfelter, participate in the VITA program Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program to provide free tax assistance for low income tax payers. Each year the students help prepare over 200 state and federal tax returns.
- In 2008, three students competed in the University of Rochester Graduate School Early Leader Case Competition and placed 3rd in this event.
- Also in 2008, we sent five accounting students to the Annual Leaders Institute held at UVA, which is held for Virginia’s top accounting students to sharpen their networking, leadership and professional skills.
- Each year we have been fortunate to offer the Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship to our top business student. The 2009 recipient was Craig Holley, who is now employed with Northrop Grumman
- Graduate Schools – many of our students have gone on to several top graduate programs. Recent placements include the University of Virginia, London School of Economics, William & Mary, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, Indiana University, and the University of Richmond.
