Required Immunizations & Allergy Shot Information

Virginia State Law requires that all first-time, full-time undergraduate and graduate students provide documentation of the required immunizations against communicable diseases, including meningitis, as is required by the Virginia State Department of Education and the recommendations of the American College Health Association, during the first semester of school. These immunizations may have been obtained as a child or later in life. This documentation must be provided and signed by a licensed health professional or health facility.  Failure to do so will result in a student's inability to participate in early registration for spring semester classes.

Please send/take your CNU Certificate of Immunization to the Office of the Registrar, located on the 2nd floor of the Administration Building. Mailing address: Office of the Registrar, Christopher Newport University, 1 University Place, Newport News, VA 23606

UHWS staff can assist you in transfering your information to CNU. Please use the Immunization Form (MS Word) to get started.

Certificate of Immunization

Sources for your immunization records:

  • Parents, grandparents, guardians
  • Previous school

  • Local health department

Below are all of the necessary forms and information you will need to read and complete before classes begin.

Meningicoccal Vaccine will be available in the clinic. Because of the cost, it must be prepaid. The current cost is $105 and this price is subject to change as dictated by the pharmaceutical company. The vaccine is also available in most local health departments and some are accepting health insurance.

 Allergy Shots

Because of safety and liability issues, no allergy shots are given in the office.  Students are urged to contact their insurance company to find out which medical facilities they are authorized to receive them in.  There are several local family physicians who can administer allergy shots, after an initial evaluation visit.  Please contact the office of UHWS for further assistance and more detailed information.
