The Captain's Log newspaper and multimedia website is an independent student-run press, subsidized by the Student Activity Fee and advertising revenues. All students are welcome to join the staff or contribute. Dr. Terry Lee, director of the Journalism Program, is the faculty adviser to the Captain's Log.
Currents is CNU's literary and fine arts magazine, and all students are invited to contribute and join the staff. It's an annual production, in color, with a range of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and art and photography. Dr. Mary Wright in the faculty adviser.

Lookout: A Creative Nonfiction Magazine & More features work from CNU journalism and nonfiction students, as well as multimedia work. The online magazine is edited by Dr. Terry Lee. All students, across the disciplines, are invited to submit work and/or to participate in the editing and production of the magazine.
Students in English 462: Community Storytelling & Documentary Studies produce documentary work in prose, photography and video. Recent work has focused on the "Wisdom of Age Project," in which students immerse themselves for a semester in the lives of elders in the Newport News / Hampton area. Dr. Terry Lee is the producer of the Wisdom of Age Project.
