Registration, 12 noon - 6 p. m., Trible Library RotundaAll registered guests will have a packet available for pickup at the Trible Library Rotunda. Families arriving after 6 p.m. on Friday should plan to have their CNU student pick up the packet at some point during the day or pick up the packet on Saturday. Alumni arriving after 6 p.m. will have packets available at the Red Star Tavern Welcome Event. Weekend updates, bookstore discounts and local attraction information will be included in the packet. (Pickup will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m.)
Study Abroad Fair, 3-6 p.m., DSU, Main StreetLearn about CNU overseas study programs, hear from students who traveled overseas and learn more about this semester's options. Talk to CNU faculty who lead summer study programs to Oxford University, China, Italy, Greece, Germany, France and other extraordinary destinations.
Christopher Newport Alumni "After Hours", 6 - 9 p.m., Red Star Tavern, City Center, Newport NewsCalling all Alumni to start the Homecoming celebration early! Join the Christopher Newport Alumni Society for free appetizers, drink specials, and an evening of fun. Come see the Freeman Center expansion and get a workout in at the same time. The Freeman Center will be free to guests of Family Weekend over the age of 18. Jump on the treadmill, elliptical, or try out some free weights as you enjoy the view of the new and improved fitness area. *Note: Fitness classes are not open to Family Weekend guests.

50th Anniversary Time Capsule Burying & Tree Planting Ceremony, 12:30 p.m., Great LawnJoin with the Christopher Newport family and be a part of history as we bury a time capsule and plant a tree as part of the University's 50th Anniversary celebrations. In December 1973, the Collegiate Civitan Club of CNC created a time capsule "to be opened December 2010." Buried under the former Student Center between Discovery Cafe and Gaines Theatre was marked a bronze plaque. The time capsule was opened before a large crowd last December who had the opportunity to peer into Christopher Newport circa 1973. Now, in celebration of the 50 past years, we look to the next 50 years as we will bury a time capsule to be opened on September 17, 2061.
