Honors Students Return From Study-In-China Program
Honors students Melissa Medlen, Philip LeClerc, Patrick Crow, Phoebe Chan, Mariyana Tasheva, and Kristen Wagemaker were among the seven students who spent a month this summer experiencing CNU’s first ever Study-in-China program, led by Dr. Xiaoqun Xu, Associate Professor of History.
Students spent a month on the campus of Shanghai Normal University (SNU). For class credit, the students enrolled in an intensive language course—Beginning Chinese—taught by professors from the International College of Chinese Studies of SNU. Other activities included a demonstration of traditional Chinese musical instruments, a presentation of Chinese tea culture, and a lecture on Chinese religious and philosophical traditions.
Outside of the classroom, students toured landmarks such as the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Yu Garden Markets, and the Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple. Travel outside of the city included trips to the Great Wall, the Imperial Palace Museum and Gardens, and countless other historical sites in the cities of Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Zhu Jia Jiao.
