Why should I study Leadership? To ensure the highest quality of instruction in this signature area of study for the university, CNU created the academic Department of Leadership Studies with dedicated full-time faculty teaching courses in the minor, advising students, and researching and publishing in the discipline of leadership. What will I learn in the Leadership curriculum?
The human social experience always has involved leadership. No matter your major or path in life, the process of leading and following will be present. The purpose of studying leadership at the undergraduate level is to help you develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to participate meaningfully in the leadership process in all of those settings.
What is American Studies?
American Studies is an interdisciplinary field that examines the culture and society of the United States, past and present. It incorporates the study of economics, history, literature, art, the media, film, urban studies and women's studies, among other fields. As a discipline, its roots include concepts of place, nation, stereotype, symbol, and identity. Overall, American Studies scholars seek ways to define and explain America and its culture.
Our curriculum in American Studies critically examines what is unique and distinct about American life, exploring geographical and cultural landscapes of the United States. Courses present the diverse ideals, values, beliefs, and actions of the American people within the larger national culture and its institutions. Courses also explore the United States within comparative and international frameworks. Students will have the opportunity for experiential learning and study abroad.

Who is eligible to enroll in the major / minor?
The Leadership Studies Minor is open to all CNU students. The Leadership Studies Minor is required for President's Leadership Program (PLP) students, but it is also an attractive curriculum for other students. The Minor in Leadership Studies can provide you with the foundation needed to succeed in graduate school, your professional career and in your personal life.
The American Studies Major and Minor are open to all CNU students. These are an excellent preparation for graduate and professional schools, as well as careers in journalism, law, government, education, non-profit organizations, and business.

Why should I take courses in American Studies?
American Studies examines the American experiment from an interdisciplinary perspective, based on the liberal arts and sciences, such as literature, history, creative arts, anthropology, geography, sociology, politics, psychology, religious studies, communication, economics, and leadership studies. American Studies employs investigative methodologies from multiple disciplines, including reading, writing, conducting research, and critically thinking about the nature of American life.
American Studies provides an education that is grounded in the principles of liberal learning and dedicated to the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service in one's community and nation. Students should gain increased self-knowledge and a sense of civic awareness and responsibility.
