The Department of Leadership and American Studies at Christopher Newport University and the Undergraduate Leadership Review (CNU’s peer-reviewed leadership studies journal) are pleased to present the 2nd Meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Leadership Conference, to be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
The conference, themed “Leadership in a Changing Society,” highlights the opportunities and challenges that individuals face as they practice leadership in the modern world. We encourage a diverse group of participants and especially encourage students and junior scholars to present their work and to serve on panels.
The meeting will be held on the Christopher Newport University campus in Newport News, Virginia.

The conference theme, “Leadership in a Changing Society,” highlights the opportunities and challenges that individuals face as they practice leadership in the modern world. Students and junior scholars are invited to submit and present their work, as well as to serve on panels. The program committee is particularly interested in receiving proposals that deal with the topics below. However, the program committee will consider all panel and paper proposals dealing with important questions of leadership studies.
- Leading change
- Ethics in leadership
- Bad leadership
- Multicultural leadership
- Public/political leadership
- New perspectives on historical leaders
- Leadership issues in K-12 and higher education
- Service learning
Panel proposals must include:
- Panel title
- Contact information for all panelists
- Brief description of the purpose and theme of the panel
- One-paragraph abstract of each of the papers
- One-page curriculum vita of each panelist, including commentator and chair
- Contact information
Proposals for individual papers should include:
- Brief abstract
- One-page curriculum vita
- Contact information
Proposals must be submitted electronically to the conference coordinator, Prof. Sean Heuvel. Deadline for proposals is 15 January 2012.
The conference registration fee is $20 (includes Saturday lunch). The fee is payable by check or cash on the day of the conference.
