Summer Study Abroad
Constitutional Transformation in South Africa
July 14–27, 2012

Led by professors William E. Thro and Jonathan White of the Department of Leadership and American Studies. Estimated cost: $4,700 (includes airfare, all transportation within South Africa, and breakfasts in Cape Town), plus tuition.
Course Description
The course focuses South Africa's current and previous Constitutions as an illustration of how a Constitution defines or redefines a society. Topics include the current (Post-Apartheid) Constitution, the multi-racial negotiations that led to the current Constitution, the 1983 Tri-Cameral Constitution (preservation of Apartheid), the 1961 Republic (Apartheid) Constitution, the 1910 Union Constitution within the British Empire, and the Pre-1900 Constitutions of the Orange Free State and Transvaal Republic.
The course takes place in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Soweto, Sun City/Pilanesburg National Park, and Cape Town.

For our students who wish to contribute to the advancement of scholarly research, we provide two venues: a peer-reviewed journal and sponsorship at national and international academic conferences.
Founded in 2007 by students, staff and faculty of CNU, the Undergraduate Leadership Review promotes undergraduate leadership development by providing a forum for undergraduate students of leadership studies, professors at the undergraduate level and collegiate staff involved in leadership development in which to publish their scholarship and experiences. The Undergraduate Leadership Review is published twice annually.
We also sponsor student delegations to top national and international academic conferences including the International Leadership Association and the U S Naval Academy Leadership Conference.
