Becoming a teacher means embarking on a program of study that will give you both the content and pedagogical knowledge, you will need to become a successful teacher. At CNU, we have three programs in teacher preparation for you to choose from.

If you are an undergraduate attending CNU and wish to become a teacher, you should apply to the 5-year program. In this program, you choose a major in a liberal arts or sciences content area, such as English or biology, and receive your bachelor's degree after four years. The fifth year gives you professional courses at the graduate level in content and pedagogy, and culminates in a semester of student teaching. Upon completion of the fifth year, you will have earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree and your license to teach in one of our 14 endorsement areas.

If you are a student who already holds a bachelor's degree, you can enroll in a 36-credit hour master's plus licensure program or an initial licensure program. Both programs give you professional coursework at the graduate level, but the MAT with licensure program requires additional courses and culminates in the awarding of the Master of Arts in Teaching degree.
