CNU Teacher Preparation Program: Key Elements for Students to Know
Graduate Study
Teacher Preparation at Christopher Newport University is at the graduate level. You may select either the Master of Arts in Teaching program or the Licensure Only program. Starting your career with a master's degree immediately adds $2,000-$3,500 to your first year salary, and all future raises are based on that salary. CNU students will be able to complete their bachelor's and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees within five years.
Interdisciplinary Faculty
Faculty are utilized from 12 academic departments and supplemented
by practicing schoolteachers. This provides you with a strong background
in your teaching area.
Partnership with
Newport News Public Schools
Newport News Public
Schools, an award-winning school district, has partnered with
CNU to provide numerous practical experiences in local area schools.
This means that you will engage in field experiences with practicing
teachers even before student teaching. In addition, you will be
very familiar with the school system in which you will student teach.
