Kari Berg is currently in the Five-Year MAT program, studying to become an elementary school teacher. She was also a recipient of the Joyce K. Sancetta Award last spring, a competitive (essay based) book award given by the CNU English Department. Kari said, "I am really looking forward to beginning at the elementary level, but I am also excited for other teaching experiences I may pursue later on. I am interested in one day possibly becoming a high school English teacher, or a school librarian. My younger sister, who underwent a bone marrow transplant at Duke Hospital last year, also has inspired me to one day work with pediatric oncology patients." Kari will be doing her student teaching in 3rd grade at Coventry Elementary School this spring. She looks forward the most to helping kids become excited about reading.
