Mathematics Graduate Students
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
This master's program is designed for students who wish to become licensed teachers. A
combination of course work and field experiences prepare students with competencies
necessary to enter the teaching profession. At the conclusion of the program, students
receive a license to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

MAT with licensure PK-6
MATH 570, Advanced Instructional Technologies in Mathematics, is required for graduate students who intend to obtain the Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree with licensure in elementary PK-6.

Most graduate mathematics courses are offered for students pursuing the Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree with licensure in mathematics for grades 6-12.
Students who take graduate-level mathematics courses at CNU to earn the masters of arts in teaching with licensure for mathematics 6-12 fall into one of two categories: (1) the five year program and (2) the program for degreed students.
Five year program (pdf, new window) students earn a bachelors degree in mathematics at CNU then stay at CNU an additional year to complete the requirements for the masters of arts in teaching.
Degreed students (pdf, new window) enter the MAT program with a bachelors degree in mathematics and take courses required for for the masters of arts in teaching.
