Roy Muth
Trumpet
Roy Muth attended Old Dominion University where he earned a degree in Music
Education. He has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Wesleyan College
and Chowan College in North Carolina. He currently teaches at Christopher Newport
University and the Governor’s School for the Arts. Roy also maintains a very busy private
teaching studio and performing schedule.
Roy has performed with numerous orchestras including the Virginia Symphony,
Richmond Symphony, North Carolina Symphony and the Virginia Opera Orchestra. Over
the years he has played with some of the biggest names in the music industry. He has
played lead trumpet with Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Arturo Sandoval, Jimmy Heath, Milt
Hinton and many others. He has also played with countless Broadway show tour
companies, circuses and ice shows. His playing can be heard on movie soundtracks, radio
and television commercials as well as Bruce Hornsby’s 1993 CD “Harbor Lights”. Roy has
performed regularly at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. with the Great American
Music Ensemble, a jazz repertoire big band. In 1998 this group was featured on a live
National Public Radio broadcast that was aired in 18 countries in Europe. The band just
completed their first CD with guest soloist Jon Faddis. He also has lead his own big band
in Virginia Beach since 1990.
