CNU's 31st Annual Writers' Conference
(Newport News, Va.) -
Christopher Newport University’s Lifelong Learning Society (LLS) will present its 31st Annual Writers' Conference on Feb. 24-25, 2012. The two-day event will take place at The Freeman Center, and is designed to improve writing skills and bring together both published and aspiring authors. This year’s keynote speaker is Edward Bloor, editor and award-winning author of four novels for teen readers: Tangerine, Crusader, Story Time and London Calling. His most recent book, A Plague Year, was published in 2011.
Conference workshops will include “Writing for Children: Where to Begin”; “Memoir Workshop: From Diary to Journal, to Memoir and Beyond”; “Guerrilla Marketing for Writers”; “Writing and Empathy”; “Storytelling in Nonfiction”; “Poetics in Fiction”; “Future of the Book”; “Finding Your Voice”; “Poems Inspired by Visionary Paintings”; and “Edward Bloor’s Literature.”
The conference will also feature a mystery writers’ panel as well as one-on-one sessions to define, refine and develop writing skills. One-on-one session consultants will include Dan Cafero, owner of Atticus Books; James Dissette, founder of Chester River Press; Carolyn Jenks, owner of the Carolyn Jenks Agency and Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, past poet laureate of Virginia.
