Nearly 2,900 undergraduate students reside in four residence halls, four apartment complexes and University owned houses. All residential facilities are managed by Hall Directors. The Hall Directors maintain a staff of student Resident Assistants (RAs) and Front Desk Assistants (FDAs). Main campus residence halls, which include James River Hall, York River Hall (East and West), Potomac River Hall (North and South) and Santoro Hall, maintain reception desks that are located in the main lobby. The reception desks are staffed from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. every day. From 12 midnight to 8 a.m., student police aides, supervised by University Police, are assigned to the reception desks and resident assistants are available on an on-call basis. All main campus residence hall exterior doors are locked at all times, except James River Hall, which houses University Health and Wellness and the doors are secured at midnight. Lobby doors on the East campus residence halls are secured at all times and entry is through a card access system. The East campus maintains a Residence Life office, located in Warwick River Hall. During the school year, this office is staffed from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday, All members of the residence life staff have been carefully chosen through a selection process established by the Director of Residence Life. The residence life staff has the skills, knowledge, and information to help residents learn about and adjust to the University and the community living environment. Training for Resident Assistants and Front Desk Assistants is conducted by the Office of Residence Life in conjunction with various agencies on and off campus.Training includes a safety component taught by University Police.
9 a.m. - 12 midnight on Friday, and 10 a.m. - 12 midnight on Saturday and Sunday. After hours Resident Assistants are available on an on-call basis. In addition, the University Police Security Division conducts routine security checks of the East campus halls from 9 p.m. - 6 a.m. every night.
