Alternative rock band Chasing Arrows, composed of CNU's own Graham Todd, Nate Fender, Walter Pierce and Joe Hamm, along with Tate Thoreson, was nominated for a 2008 MTV-U Woodie Award for best unsigned band. The group's song "We Can" was featured on MTV's The College Life in spring 2009. Former CNU student Anthony Colosimo performed onstage with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in the Concert Hall of the Ferguson Center. Chris Richardson, who finished fifth on season six of American Idol, studied music composition at CNU and was a member of the CNU football team. The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques.

It is a comprehensive course, for women, that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a martial arts program. This course is taught by University Police officers that are certified as R.A.D. instructors.
