PLP Committees

• Committees meet weekly in the PLP Office.
• We encourage everyone to join a committee. It is a great way to get involved in the program!

Community Service Committee
The purpose of the community service committee is to help organize, plan and advertise community service opportunities for PLP students. These committee members will attend the service events the committee is involved with, and assist with set-up and cleanup, if necessary. In the past, this committee has helped organize Habitat for Humanity opportunities, visits to Riverside Hospital and the Newport Nursing Home and mentoring local middle school and elementary school students. This committee will work to come up with new service ideas and opportunities for fellow PLP students, as well as the CNU community.

Social Planning Committee
The purpose of the social planning committee is to help organize, plan and advertise PLP social events. These committee members will attend these events and assist with set-up and cleanup, if necessary. In the past, this committee has helped with PLP events such as the Costume Bash, Winter Dance, Huntington Picnic, and more. This committee will work to come up with new social ideas to continue to build unity and social opportunities for PLP students.

PLP Council
The PLP Council is a way for students to get involved with the running
of the program.  Students serving on the council are expected to be
highly involved with their classmates to express their opinions of PLP
events in an open forum.  Staff will often ask the Council to consider
certain policy changes so the students have a say in how the program
operates. 

The Middle School Leadership Conference Committee
The purpose of the middle school leadership conference committee is to help plan and organized the annual Newport News Middle School Leadership conference held on CNU’s campus in the spring.  This event is sponsored by the President’s Leadership Program.  It is an all-day conference for middle school students from the nine surrounding Newport  News middle schools.  All aspects of the program will be planned and executed by PLP students.
