Putting Leadership into Practice!
Why should I participate in an internship?
What better way to practice leadership in the field of your choice. It is a fantastic way to get practical experience to build toward your future. You will be required to complete an internship for the Leadership Minor. You will need to enroll in the Leadership (LDSP) 491 course upon completion of the internship. This course will give you an opportunity to reflect on the internship and what it did for you. Internship experience often places you closer to your desired career than a part-time job. In addition, internships can lead to full-time employment!
When should I do my internship?
You must complete the internship before taking Leadership (LDSP) 491 but AFTER completing the LDSP 310 and LDSP 320 courses.
What kind of internship should I do?
That’s up to you! Look into participating in an internship in a field that you have interest. There are lots of opportunities in the Hampton Roads area as well as your own hometown! We’ve had students intern with organizations from Verizon Wireless to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. They’ve traveled to Africa, or stayed on campus and interned with a CNU organization. Check your email and talk with a PLP staffer for internship opportunities and suggestions. You may also want to contact the Center for Career Planning at (757) 594-8887.
How long does the internship have to be?
The internship requires a minimum of 120 hours.
Is Leadership (LDSP) 491 writing intensive?
LDSP 491 is NOT a writing-intensive course and does not satisfy "two writing intensive course requirements to graduate" by the University.
