Research being conducted in the department ranks among the best in the world.

Together, faculty and students publish research articles in internationally renowned journals, write books on their areas of specialty, and present research findings at conferences across Virginia and the United States.

Participating in research is a core part of the department curriculum and students are encouraged to become involved in research as part of their coursework.  By participating in research, introductory students gain valuable insight into how psychology operates as a scientific discipline, and how we are able to ask complex behavioral questions with carefully designed experiments.  Psychology majors will also learn how to design and conduct research studies as part of required upper-level coursework.  Outside of class, students are welcome to join research labs where they can experience all levels of the research process.  If you are interested in research, talk to your professors and ask how you can get involved!
