Spring 2012

Equestrian Club 2nd in Region - Makes CNU History!

After back-to-back seasons as the number three team overall in Region 1, Christopher Newport University finally broke the Goucher/Mary Washington stronghold on Champion and/or Reserve Champion honors in 2011-12. The Captains scored 225 points (four more than in 2010-11) and finished second overall for the first time in program history. Prior to Head Coach Ryann Winn's arrival (Winn is on far left) Christopher Newport had never finished a season in the top five within the Zone 4, Region 1 team standings.

Ice Hockey Club is the BRHC Champion!

The weekend of February 26th, the Ice Hockey club traveled to Liberty University for the BRHC playoffs. They had a first-round Bye, but faced VCU on February 25. They were victorious in that game winning 8 to 3. On February 26, they faced off against Loyola University, who that previous night, beat Richmond 10 to 2. The club hung in there and ended up on top beating Loyola 7 to 6 in overtime! Congrats to the team -- they brought home the BRHC title for the first time in CNU Hockey history.!

Fall 2011

Equestrian -- The Club's At It Again!

October 30th the team ventured to Goucher College and placed third overall -- just one point behind George Washington University! Michelle Fox won her class and pointed out in Novice and will be going to Regionals at the end of the year! CONGRATS!

The team hosted their 2nd Annual Club Show at Amazing Grace Stables. They were Reserve High Point College! Ashley McFadden won both of her classes, and was High Point Rider for the day! Kudos to you!

Equestrian -- Club Finishes Strong!

The CNU Equestrian Team was Reserve High Point College (tied with GWU and UMW) at the IHSA Show at Goucher College the weekend of October 2nd! Pictured below is the team alongside their coach and ribbons from the weekend!

Spring 2011

Fishing - Club finishes fifth in National's!

Seniors Ryan Ingalls and Joe Wilkerson repreesented Christopher Newport University in the FLW College Fishing National Championship. The tournament was April 7 - 9 and took place in Kentucky at Murray State University. Over the weekend long competition, the pair caught a total of 25 pounds, eight ounces, earning them a fifth place finish.

Their fifth place finish earned them $10,000 in prize money, as well as getting the name of CNU out there.

The Equestrian club finished third in their region (behind Goucher College and University of Mary Washington) and sent four riders to Regionals! Ryan Tiedemann & Danta Thompson advanced to Zones from Regionals, where neither of them placed but rode wonderfully and gave it their best. At the last show of the seaon, the team got Reserve High Point College! Great season Equestrian Club!!

Silver Storm - Mini Storm Camp

On February 5th, the Silver Storm held its second annual Mini Storm Camp. Many elementary school aged girls from around the area came for a day of fun and dance. The girls learned a short routine and performed with the team at the women’s basketball game that afternoon. A great time was had by all!
