Graduation
- Intent to Graduate
Application for graduation; submit upon completion of 75 credit hours. - Participation in Spring 2012 Commencement For undergraduate students who plan to participate in the May 2012 Commencement ceremonies, please be aware of the following policy: Undergraduate students must go into final exams with courses in progress which will complete all degree requirements. If at the end of final exams, due to unforeseen circumstances, a May 2012 degree candidate falls short of completing all degree requirements and is within three (3) credits of completing his/her degree requirements, the student may be eligible for participation on the May 2012 Commencement ceremony. To be eligible, the student must present a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) both in the major and overall. If after final exams, a May 2012 degree candidate falls to within three credits hours of completing all degree requirements and possesses the required GPA, s/he may “walk” in the May 2012 Commencement ceremony. In such cases, the Office of the Registrar will contact those students to advise them of the change in their eligibility to participate in the Commencement ceremonies. (Note: These students will be referred to as “walkers.”) "Walking" means that students will sit with other students in their degree program, be hooded by the University’s academic leaders, walk across the stage to shake hands with President Trible and receive a diploma cover. Because these students will not have completed all degree requirements, they will be announced as a “candidate for graduation” at the Ceremony. Diplomas will be distributed only for students whose degree has been conferred (completed all degree requirements). “Walkers” will be eligible to receive their diplomas after their degree has been conferred (completed all degree requirements). Typically, graduates can pick up their diplomas from the Office of the Registrar for five business days after their degree conferral date. After five business days, the Office of the Registrar will mail the diploma to the address of record. Latin Honors can only be bestowed once all degree requirements have successfully been completed. Because graduation and Commencement information is time sensitive, students should maintain accurate contact information (phone numbers and addresses) with the Office of the Registrar as well as submit an ‘Intent to Graduate’ form. Questions regarding eligibility for graduation or “walking” in the ceremonies should be directed to the Office of the Registrar.
