Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society

2007 Rookie Chapter of the Year !

Lambda Pi Eta honor society students

Dr. Michaela D. E. Meyer 2007 Rookie Chapter Advisor of the Year !

Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA). LPE was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas.  LPE became a part of the National Communication Association (NCA) in 1988, and the official honor society of the NCA in July 1995.

Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle described in his book “Rhetoric” as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics.

The Lambda Pi Eta Sigma Kappa Chapter at Christopher Newport University was founded in 2004 by current faculty advisor, Dr. Michaela D.E. Meyer. Our chapter's charter members, inducted in Spring 2005, included 18 individuals. Currently there are 35 members of the Sigma Kappa Chapter.

We are currently working on fundraising events, preparation for graduate programs, and social events. Two members, Kristen Willett and Megan Tucker, presented papers at the 2006 National Communication Association Convention.  Also, nine members presented papers at Christopher Newport University's 2007 Paideia Student Conference.

LPE members meet bi-monthly in the conference room at Commonwealth Hall.

Application for membership can be found at the bottom of this page.

CNU's Sigma Kappa Chapter will help organize and facilitate events within the department and on campus that promote communication studies and student achievement. Members of LPE will be honored within the department, and they will receive honor cords at their graduation ceremonies.
